Mykola Bilous

Calligraphy of the Roaring Bikes / TSEKH gallery project

The ingenious contemporary method of Mykola Bilous has been developing. His new exhibition project “Love and Motorbikes” consists of ten great paintings indicating the artist’s juvenile memories. His father used to collect bikes. The artist grew among them. It is the first time the author addresses the roaring engine subject, and this topic positively reveals a true nomad in him. His plots are both intimate and concealing. Having fundamental knowledge of art history, the author relentlessly unfolds an ageless topic – the aesthetization of a motorbike as a powerful and expressive erotic conflict between masculinity and femininity, as it regularly happens on Bikers Street.

Invention in chromatics

For those who are not experts in the topic, key aspects of the artist’s method here be outlined shortly: first, he excludes black from a drawing’s body; second, apply basic tone  — a mixture of the three main colors — red, yellow and blue — instead of the shadows; three, a harmonious combination of opened main and additional colors in one layer, which brings technical reminiscences of calligraphy. Every project by Mykola Bilous is an invention in chromatics — we are following the process of the artist's close examination of colors. The new findings of the new project are the combinations of four tones of blue and a few tones of red and green.

Feast of Embodied Colors

Only yellow, violet, and orange colors are currently not upgraded. But let us be patient. Perhaps there lies the artist’s chromatic dramaturgy of the upcoming show — Feast of Embodied Colors.
